The Spectator is looking for a growth marketer who can spot the line, the angle, or the moment that will persuade a reader to subscribe - and move fast to capitalise on it. You'll combine sharp editorial instinct with smart, data-driven marketing to turn The Spectator's journalism into subscription growth. This role demands both a feel for politics and current affairs, and the creativity to package and promote our content in ways that drive real commercial impact.
You'll be watching our output and the wider news agenda constantly, spotting which articles, arguments or trends can be amplified to bring in new readers and convert them into paying subscribers. With access to a strong in-house team, a designer, a marketing executive and a paid media agency, you will conceive, brief, execute, and report on rapid tactical campaigns - running alongside our core acquisition efforts to deliver meaningful, visible growth.
This is a rare opportunity to make a major impact: adding new layers of creativity and pace to an already highly successful subscription business, and helping drive The Spectator's digital growth through sharp judgement, creative flair, and a deep feel for what resonates with our audience.
Key responsibilities:
* Conceive, brief, execute and report on tactical subscription campaigns across paid and organic channels.
* Identify and package editorial content in real time, with a clear instinct for what will resonate.
* Own and manage the day-to-day relationship with the external paid media agency.
* Run continual creative and offer testing to improve acquisition and re-engagement.
* Work closely with editorial, design and marketing colleagues to ensure growth efforts align with The Spectator's editorial tone and priorities.
* Track the news cycle and cultural conversations to identify new growth opportunities.
* Own campaign reporting and performance analysis.
Requirements
* Proven experience driving subscription or audience growth in a digital environment.
* Deep understanding of current affairs, politics and The Spectator's distinctive voice.
* Excellent editorial judgement with a sharp sense of what cuts through on digital platforms.
* First-rate copywriting skills with wit, humour and the ability to turn a phrase.
* Comfortable balancing instinct with data - testing, learning and optimising continuously.
* Experience managing agency relationships and multi-channel campaigns.
* A background in publishing, journalism, politics or current affairs strongly preferred.
Benefits
* Salary dependent on experience.
* 5% Employer Contribution Pension Scheme.
* Generous Holiday Allowance with 25 days holiday per calendar year + birthday holiday bonus + Bank Holiday Leave
* All staff receive generous discounts at our Company restaurant, as well as free breakfast and fruit
* Cycle to work scheme
* Interest free season ticket loan
