Clinical Lead – Deputy (General Medicine Therapy Team)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and suitably experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our General Medicine Therapy team, as a Clinical Lead and Deputy Team Lead for part‑time hours (Thursday and Friday, 15 hours per week).


Responsibilities

* Act as the lead clinician and Deputy Team Lead, supporting the organisation, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the therapy service on Sheldon ward.
* Take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of general medicine patients with varied and often complex presentations, including comorbidities.
* Determine clinical diagnosis, develop and implement effective treatment plans.
* Undertake a clinical caseload and treat to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience to patients with complex physical and psychological conditions.
* Provide clinical leadership to all members of the therapy team.
* Deputise for the General Medicine Therapy Team Lead in their absence.
* Be responsible for the clinical training, development and in‑service training for the General Medicine Therapy team from staff in Bands 3‑6, overseeing competency documents, job descriptions and person specifications and reviewing them as new procedures and practices are developed.
* Conduct joint treatment sessions, supervision and appraisal of staff.
* Act as a source of expertise on the management of general medicine patients, providing clinical support and expertise to all staff within the team, including nurses, health care assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, support staff, consultants, junior doctors, GPs and other clinical staff.
* Lead and develop effective inter‑disciplinary relationships and communication within the trust and county‑wide.
* Encourage and support professional, clinical and personal development of all team members and ensure a cohesive service by close co‑operation with colleagues.
* Maintain a high level of clinical knowledge and skills in order to carry out duties required of this role, working clinically on own caseload, determining clinical diagnosis and therapy treatment indicated, and maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.


Qualifications

* Relevant degree or diploma in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy.
* MCSP or MCOT qualification.


Experience

* At least 5 years senior experience with a minimum of 3 years within the relevant speciality.
* Experience working within the NHS.


Skills and Competencies

* Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
* Strong team member with experience supervising senior therapy staff.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
* Ability to cope with a stressful environment and work under own initiative.
* Mature and tactful approach to problem solving and change management.
* CPD file with evidence of IST and reflective learning.


Knowledge

* Advanced knowledge within the relevant speciality.
* Evidence of critical evaluation and problem solving approach to clinical interventions.
* Proficiency in IT skills.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and its implications.


Professional Registration Required

Workers must hold appropriate UK professional registration.
