The Role of the Slitting Machine Operator
As a Slitting Operator, youll be responsible for running conversion machinery to produce finished slit reels to specification, ensuring safety, efficiency, and product quality at every stage of the process.
Key Responsibilities
* Select films, materials, and supplies in line with job specifications.
* Set up and operate slitting machinery safely and efficiently.
* Perform process inspections to ensure product meets all quality standards.
* Unload, record, palletise and package finished products according to internal and customer requirements.
* Accurately complete production reports in the Mills system to ensure proper time recording and product identification.
* Maintain a safe, clean, and tidy machine area at all times.
* Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and inform maintenance of any repairs needed.
* Rework non-conforming products when required.
* Manage waste responsibly – emptying skips, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring waste is correctly disposed of.
* Update Daily Management boards and support continuous improvement activities.
* Comply fully with all safety regulations, procedures, and environmental standards.
Requirements
* Previous experience operating slitting, converting, or similar machinery in a production environment.
* Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to product quality.
* Mechanically minded with good problem‑solving skills.
* Works safely, efficiently, and as part of a team.
* Flexible with shift work and motivated to learn and improve.
Your Benefits Package
* Hours: average 42 hours per week, 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (2 days / 2 nights)
* Breaks: 1‑hour paid break per shift
* Overtime: paid at 1.5x and 2.0x (Sundays & Bank Holidays)
