About us

The Western Australian Museum is a vibrant centre of inspiration, learning and enjoyment for everyone. It preserves, documents and shares collections relating to the State’s natural and cultural heritage. It collaborates with people across Western Australia to share the stories and voices of diverse communities. It works alongside national and international organisations, contributing to global research, promoting life-long learning, and developing and hosting world-class exhibitions.

About the role

Assistant Curators in the Anthropology & Archaeology Department support the development, documentation, management, and interpretation of the department’s collections. They contribute to research and deliver public outcomes aligned to the WA Museum’s Strategic plan and the departmental operational plan, working collaboratively within the Museum, and externally with source communities, partners, and other stakeholders.

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who loves working in a positive team environment, has a passion for museums and archaeology, enjoys a challenge, and wants to make a difference. You will have relevant qualifications in Australian Archaeology that will enable you to undertake a range of museum-related archaeological work around the State.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

1. Assist with the routine documentation and management of Archaeology collections and data, and management of collection stores.
2. Assist with research and development of public programmes, related particularly to exhibitions.
3. Answer public enquiries, participate in special public events, and facilitate appropriate access to Anthropology and Archaeology collections and information.
