About the Role
Watford General Hospital, a tertiary Gynaecological Cancer Centre supported by three Gynaecological oncology consultants, treats nearly 400 new cancer cases annually. The department boasts extensive experience in advanced ovarian cancer surgery and is equipped with multi-platform robotic technology, including two Versius and one daVinci systems.
The appointee will gain surgical exposure in day surgery, complex oncology, and minimally invasive procedures, including robotics, with at least thrice-weekly gynaecology oncology theatre sessions.
The fellow will support consultants with ward rounds, clinics, research, audits, and MDT meetings, with potential involvement in additional theatre lists depending on workload. The department comprises 24 consultants, 16 middle grade doctors, 2 FY2 doctors, and 9 ST1/2 doctors. The role involves a 1 in 8 on-call rota.
This position aims to enhance team cohesion, support ward staff, and contribute to implementing the Enhanced Recovery Protocol. Dedicated time for audits and research will facilitate service development, and the role includes preparing cases for weekly MDT meetings to improve decision-making and patient outcomes.
The fellow will provide essential support during surgeries, especially complex cases, to ensure safety and quality of care.
