Area: High Heaton area, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Rate: £13.50 per hour.
We are currently looking to recruit a female personal assistant for a 12‑year‑old girl named Katrina who lives with her parents in the High Heaton area. Katrina attends a specialist school, is registered blind with a severe sight impairment, has a learning disability and is a non‑verbal autistic person. She communicates through gestures, noises and hand gestures.
Responsibilities:
* Assist Katrina with personal care, including pad changes, feeding and drinking, providing prompts and supervision to ensure she consumes adequate food and fluids.
* Support Katrina’s mobility by managing her wheelchair or beach buggy, supervising all movement, and ensuring she is safe at all times.
* Facilitate community and recreational outings such as visits to the Tim Lamb Centre, Alnwick Gardens, White House Farm, SEN soft play sessions, local parks, swimming events and specialist centres. All trips must be pre‑arranged and supervised.
* Adhere to routines and instructions from Katrina’s parents and promote a consistent daily schedule.
* Assume the role of a trustworthy companion, maintaining respect for Katrina’s privacy and wishes.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Preferred: Clean Full UK Driving Licence. Katrina has a mobility car and a companion free bus pass for public transport; driving support enhances her access to the community.
* Legal eligibility: Must have permission to work in the U.K. at the time of start.
Genuine Occupational Requirement: The holder of this post must be male or female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1–4.
