Multiskilled Engineer (Electrical) – EQUANS
Join EQUANS as a Multiskilled Technician (Electrical) working on behalf of our Burnley General Teaching Hospital contract. This permanent full‑time role requires 40 hours per week. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview
* Help ensure compliance with statutory and company procedures, maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of H&S and environmental regulations and helping us to achieve our H&S target.
* Diagnose, fault‑find, commission systems, monitor and assess ongoing machine/facility performance through a Planned Preventive Maintenance programme, identifying any additional works required.
* Assist in installing, commissioning, and servicing plant, equipment and industrial furniture.
* Maintain a smart appearance and professional manner representative of EQUANS in the workplace.
* Carry out and assist in planned/reactive maintenance to on‑site systems.
* Flexible working hours required, which may include overtime working.
* Participate in the on‑call rota.
* Administer and complete relevant paperwork.
* Show fairness, consistency, and courtesy in all dealings at all levels.
* Work under pressure, take ownership of problems and see them to completion.
* Ensure that all issues are reported to the Technical Services Supervisor/Manager.
Impact
The Electrician (Lead) carries out electrical planned and reactive maintenance on all on‑site infrastructure.
Communicate regularly and effectively with clients and develop excellent professional working relationships to ensure smooth business operations.
Organise works allocated in a timely manner and work supportively with the team.
Submit clear and accurate reports.
Attend site out of hours as and when required on a rotational basis.
Carry out operational activities in a manner that ensures personal safety and does not endanger the safety of others.
The position ensures that EQUANS can meet statutory and contractual obligations whilst providing an excellent service to our customers. The Engineer is part of the facilities maintenance team, contributing to the effective and efficient operation of the estate and associated engineering systems that support healthcare delivery.
Complexity
The maintenance engineer will complete engineering activities and undertake duties for which they are trained and competent. An on‑site Estates management team can offer specialised technical advice and liaise with appropriate levels of management to facilitate specialist isolations necessary for certain engineering works.
Qualifications or Required Experience
* Experience maintaining, servicing and repairing a wide range of building services, including lighting, small power, low‑voltage distribution, switchgear, emergency standby generators, fire alarm systems, general and emergency lighting, building management systems, PTS systems, UPS/IPS, and safety sources.
* Recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications.
* Valid UK driving licence and ability to obtain a DBS check.
* Proven track record as an experienced electrical system professional; highly multi‑skilled in building services.
* Fully qualified electrician; qualified to IEE 17th/18th edition.
* Testing and certification of electrical installations.
* Basic computer literacy.
* Sound awareness of risk assessment and working safely with equipment.
* Sound knowledge of Health & Safety.
* Experience working within a healthcare environment preferred but not essential.
* Ability to follow instructions, work to plans (method statements), communicate, present and report technical information as appropriate to trade/skill.
* Completed an electrical apprenticeship with relevant qualifications.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
* AM2 – Desirable.
* City & Guilds 2392 – Inspection & Testing or equivalent – Desirable.
