About the Role
A supportive and specialist school setting in Welling is seeking a compassionate and skilled SEN Teacher to join their team on a long-term basis. This role involves working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), delivering highly personalised learning and care.
This is a full teaching role, requiring full classroom responsibilities including planning, preparation, marking, and assessment, alongside a strong emphasis on communication, sensory engagement, and holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver personalised and engaging lessons tailored to pupils with ASD and PMLD
2. Plan, prepare, and assess learning in line with EHCP targets and individual needs
3. Use a range of communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory approaches)
4. Support pupils with complex needs, including personal care where required
5. Create a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment
6. Monitor and track progress, celebrating small but significant achievements
7. Work closely with support staff, therapists, SENCO, and senior leadership
8. Maintain detailed records and contribute to reviews and reports
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
9. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
10. Experience working with pupils with ASD and/or PMLD
11. Strong understanding of SEN strategies and personalised learning approaches
12. A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach
13. Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team
14. Commitment to supporting pupils’ communication, independence, and wellbeing
