Professor/Senior Clinician in Small Animal Surgery
Senior Clinician, Grade 9, £59,966 – £67,468 per annum with a generous veterinary supplement, out‑of‑hours stipend and employer’s pension.
Job Purpose
Deliver and lead an efficient small animal surgery service, enhance clinical teaching and undertake clinical scholarship to advance national and international excellence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide a high‑quality specialist service and external advice to maintain a clinical referral workload.
* Develop novel diagnostic and treatment approaches and support income generation.
* Participate in the out‑of‑hours service and provide supervision when required.
* Implement and validate clinical quality assurance measures.
* Plan, organise and deliver training programmes and supervise clinical scholars.
* Engage in national and international professional bodies and promote the Small Animal Hospital.
* Maintain professional standards and continuous professional development.
* Contribute to academic development and external collaborations.
Teaching
* Plan, organise and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities.
* Support creative and innovative teaching approaches.
* Deliver assessment activities and engage in the examination process.
Clinical Scholarship
* Conduct personal research with publication in refereed clinical journals.
* Collaborate in clinical research projects and present findings at conferences.
* Attend national and international research events.
Administration
* Contribute to clinical director/ division administration.
* Participate in performance and development review processes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Essential Veterinary degree, registerable with RCVS; prior small animal surgery training; postgraduate specialist qualification in veterinary surgery.
* Grade 10 essential International record of research; established reputation in competitive research field.
* Desirable: Masters, PhD; Higher Education Academy fellowship.
* Skills Expert clinical advice; high‑standard communication; independent and team working; strategic planning; presentation skills; leadership in teaching and clinical teams.
* Experience Post‑graduate clinical experience in small animal surgery; teaching experience; track‑record of clinical publications; extensive academic experience; proven university teaching and research programme management.
