Looked After Children’s Nurse

This vacancy is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

Main duties of the job
Support NHS clinical teams in delivering patient care in a community setting, ensuring excellent patient experiences. Provide assistance to frontline NHS teams and maintain high standards of patient care.
Job responsibilities
* Drive to perform duties if required; hold a valid UK driving licence or an EU licence issued by a non‑UK member state.
* Document and input patient care data into IT systems and databases.
* Maintain up‑to‑date clinical practice, adhering to evidence‑based procedures, statutory guidance for looked after children, and NICE guidance.
* Support vulnerable children and young people through primary care and child development activities.
* Participate in vaccination promotion and compliance for members in contact with patients.
* Provide accurate information to the recruitment team and respond to queries efficiently.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Level 6 degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience plus a diploma in nursing.
* Registered health care professional with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD related to children and young people.
Experience
* Experience in Primary Care and child development, or SCPHN health visiting/school nursing, including work with vulnerable children and young people.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the statutory guidance for promoting health and wellbeing of looked after children (Dept. Education and Department of Health 2015).
* Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 & 2004 and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
* Awareness of NHS developments, NHS Service Frameworks, and NICE guidance.
Skills and ability
* Proficiency in using IT systems and databases.
* Full, valid UK driving licence or an EU licence (non‑exchanged) and ability to travel independently.
Personal attributes
* Attention to detail and ability to spot potential problems.
* Awareness of personal limits and ability to recognise when to escalates.
* Adaptability to changing work environments within a wider team.
