SHEQ Manager
Our client is an esteemed chemicals company, operating a highly regulated lower-tier COMAH site in West Bromwich, looking for an SHEQ Manager at their site reporting to the Managing Director, to lead and develop Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality functions, driving continuous improvement in performance and culture.
This role has overall responsibility for SHEQ strategy, policy, and compliance. You will lead the SHEQ teams, engage with regulators and external stakeholders, and oversee performance monitoring, incident investigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support Health, Safety, Environmental, QC and QA functions
* Maintain and enhance compliance with COMAH, ISO9001, ISO14001 and related standards
* Act as the primary contact for audits and regulatory inspections, maintaining strong relationships with relevant authorities
* Develop, implement and monitor SHEQ policies, procedures and management systems
* Provide expert guidance on SHEQ matters and drive best practice improvements
* Oversee audits, complaints, and technical queries related to products and specifications
* Chair SHEQ-related committees and management review meetings
* Manage external communications with regulators, industry bodies and other stakeholders
* Oversee incident investigations, claims management and reporting processes
* Identify training needs and support the development and delivery of SHEQ training
Skills & Experience
* Extensive SHEQ management experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally high-hazard or chemical
* Strong knowledge of COMAH regulations and regulatory compliance
* Experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, auditing and reporting
* Solid understanding of SHE legislation, quality standards and ISO systems
* Familiarity with laboratory management systems (e.g. COSHH, SDS, document control)
* Proven leadership and team management experience
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
Desirable
* Experience in safety-critical or COMAH-regulated environments
* Degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
* Experience with analytical techniques such as GC, GC-MS or HPLC
* NEBOSH Certificate (essential); Diploma (preferred)
* Knowledge of competence and training systems, process safety, human factors, and behavioural safety
