The paediatric gastroenterology department at Leeds is a regional service for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children who have, or may have, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, coeliac disease, and a wide range of miscellaneous gastrointestinal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastroparesis, chronic diarrhoea, severe constipation, feeding difficulties, and functional disorders including recurrent abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome and cyclical vomiting.
The core objective of this post is to deliver care to patients with gastroenterological and nutritional disorders at the Leeds Children's Hospital through Out-patient clinics, On-call (1:6) patient supervision, providing telephone advice, daily ward rounds, and contributing to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Gastroenterology and its related specialties including motility and endoscopy. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Essential
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in paediatric gastroenterology.
* Specifically, must demonstrate higher level training in nutrition and managing patients with intestinal failure, and be confident with upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
Training
Essential
* Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Gastroenterology and nutrition including endoscopy.
* JAG accreditation for upper GI endoscopy.
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register as a Paediatric Gastroenterologist (or be within 6 months from the date of AAC) OR on specialist register for paediatrics with evidence of equivalent training and experience to the level of a UK-based Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist.
* Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
* Valid BLS Training
Desirable
* JAG accreditation for lower GI endoscopy or in the process of obtaining the accreditation.
