Policy Engineer (Electricity Distribution) Location: We are currently recruiting on behalf of a major UK electricity distribution business for a Policy Engineer to join their Engineering Strategy team.
This is a key technical role focused on shaping engineering standards and ensuring high-performance plant assets across all voltage levels up to 132kV.
You’ll support the development and implementation of policies and standards for plant equipment, including substation transformers, switchgear, and associated civil infrastructure.
The role combines technical leadership, supplier engagement, and investigative work to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective asset performance.
Develop and manage engineering policies and technical specifications
Lead defect and failure investigations, including root cause analysis
Provide technical support to internal teams, contractors, and external providers
Manage equipment data and reporting systems for asset performance
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
~5+ years’ experience in power networks, substation equipment, or related fields
~ Good understanding and experience in Switchgear maintenance
~ Knowledge of HV/LV systems, network operations, and engineering policy
~ Competitive salary
