Job Summary
As a registered pharmacy technician you will work with the pharmacy clinical trials team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) to support a portfolio of around 200 Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) studies. Your role will involve dispensing, accuracy checking and stock management of IMPs, maintaining accountability records, and providing technical support for clinical trial processes.
Responsibilities
* Complete and maintain dispensing and accuracy-checking validations for IMPs.
* Prepare, label, dispense and perform self‑checking of synthetic, cytotoxic and controlled drugs following trial‑specific procedures.
* Maintain accurately legible accountability documentation for IMPs and Non‑Investigational Medicinal Products (NIMPs).
* Manage stock control, ordering, receipt, expiry monitoring and storage conditions of all trial medicines.
* Assist with storage maintenance, temperature monitoring and stock‑taking activities in the clinical trials area.
* Respond to telephone and face‑to‑face enquiries from clinical staff, patients and sponsors.
* Prepare charges for trial services and collate information for invoicing.
* Support lead pharmacy technicians during sponsor monitoring visits and audits.
* Provide training and act as a role model for other technical and support staff.
* Attend team meetings, take minutes and participate in audit preparation and close‑out activities.
* Support operational management of the trials dispensary and liaise with the aseptic unit.
* Maintain personal practice skills in dispensing, counselling and pharmacy computer systems.
* Complete NIHR GCP training annually and other mandatory training.
* Work rotating shifts across campuses, including weekends, bank holidays and flexible duties.
* Adapt quickly between work areas to meet service demands.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Pharmacy Technician (GPhC) or qualified to register within 6 months.
* Accredited accuracy checker (within 6 months of appointment) – desirable.
* Previous pharmacy experience with dispensing, electronic stock systems and teamwork.
* Knowledge or awareness of pharmacy clinical trial services.
* Experience in clinical trial services and understanding of extended technician roles – desirable.

* Accurate data recording across computer systems.
Other Requirements
* UK professional registration is required.
