Thank you for your taking the time to consider this opportunity to work with us. We are firmly committed to being the best possible provider of healthcare and place to work in the NHS. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to 2 Locum Luminal Gastroenterology Consultant positions.
The endoscopy service is one of the largest in the region, serving a population of more than 1.1 million. We have been the beneficiary of significant national capital investment, with a new 2-room endoscopy unit opening at Hinckley Hospital (CDC) in June 2025. In October 2025, we will open a new Endoscopy Unit at the LGH site, comprising 6 procedure rooms and 20 patient pods. The unit will feature excellent training facilities with SMOTS in three rooms, linking to a large seminar room for JAG courses. This investment increases physical capacity to 16 rooms across three hospitals and four community sites, enabling the service to see over 34,000 patients annually, offering complex procedures and high-volume diagnostics, including transnasal procedures.
This is an exciting time to join the Gastroenterology Team at UHL, with investments to expand the medical and nursing workforce. We are offering 2 locum positions to support colleagues interested in subspecialties such as IBD, nutrition, therapeutic procedures, or neuroendocrine. These posts will involve work across all three sites within UHL, with community sessions included. On-call, in-reach, and ward work are negotiable.
The role involves outpatient and endoscopic services, participation in MDTs, and involvement in education and research. Candidates should demonstrate leadership qualities and a track record of delivery.
UHL is a regional and national leader, with a turnover of over £1.4 billion, serving diverse communities across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Our vision is to provide high-quality care, be a great place to work, foster impactful partnerships, and excel in research and education, all while embedding health equality.
Our values are compassion, pride, inclusivity, and teamwork. We aim to make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve, building on our strengths and focusing on areas for growth.
