Do you want to be part of something amazing and have the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects of direct relevance to tackling the climate emergency?
We are looking for a Project Manager to work in the Earth Observations area. Earth Observations (EO) from space capture immensely valuable measurements of the climate. EO data are complex, and transforming these measurements into trustable information usable for world-class science, climate services, and enhanced policymaking requires the underpinning of world-class metrology. NPL is a leader in the development and application of EO metrology, spanning a wide range of activities. As a Project Manager, you’ll take a leading role in delivering projects and contracts that can significantly impact our world.
Our Project Managers lead projects with stakeholders worldwide, including R&D and commercial projects across the UK government, industry, and international collaborations such as the European Space Agency (ESA). You will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards within our governance framework. You will receive support from our exclusive PMO portfolio office, which provides resources and templates to ensure high project management standards. The PMO also continually improves project processes to enhance delivery effectiveness.
Our Project Managers build trust-based relationships and become embedded in their project teams, working effectively with NPL’s world-leading scientists. This fosters a supportive, friendly, and encouraging culture within our organization. You don’t need to be an expert in science, but through your involvement, you will become highly conversant with your projects’ themes.
We operate in a hybrid working model, combining remote and office work, and strive to offer a great work-life balance. We are open to part-time or flexible working options where feasible. Additionally, as an NPL employee, you will have access to a wide range of benefits.
About You

As a Project Manager, you will manage medium-complexity projects independently, primarily for government or industry partners. There may be opportunities for line management of Junior Project Managers.
