Hand Nurse Practitioner

Band 7

Job overview

The Hand Surgery Nurse Practitioner (Band7) will join a busy tertiary referral centre dedicated to adult traumatic hand injuries and chronic hand conditions, working within a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, nurses, hand therapists and administrative staff. In this hybrid role the NP independently assesses and diagnoses patients referred with hand trauma, develops and implements management plans, and leads the nurse‑practitioner‑run hand trauma clinic, with consultant support available for complex cases. A thorough understanding of advanced wound‑care is essential, as the NP also provides senior cover for the dressing clinics and oversees day‑to‑day departmental operations, including line‑management of junior nursing staff. The position offers a unique balance of direct patient care and managerial responsibility, supporting the development of both clinical expertise and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

The Hand Nurse Practitioner will serve as the frontline clinician in our fast‑paced acute hand trauma and dressing‑review clinic, evaluating and managing injuries ranging from simple lacerations to complex fractures, performing wound assessments, dressing changes, splinting, and coordinating seamless follow‑up with our hand surgery team. We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner or an experienced RN with Advanced Practice credentials who holds an active RN license, has at least two years of hands‑on experience in hand or orthopaedic trauma, and is skilled in wound care, splinting, and emergency triage; strong critical‑thinking, excellent communication, and a compassionate, patient‑centred approach are essential. Joining our department means becoming part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that invests in your professional growth through on the job training, mentorship from nationally‑recognized hand surgeons, and a supportive culture that values work‑life balance, and competitive compensation—making it the ideal place to advance your expertise while making a tangible difference in patients’ lives.
