We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of at the, Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes (UK) – including gasoline, diesel, and electric powered wheeled vehicles – primarily within a military installation or under limited driving conditions, to transport cargo and recycling materials. The incumbent also operates forklifts to load/unload cargo and recycling materials. Duties include receiving, examining, verifying, and processing a wide variety of recycling materials and equipment. This involves loading/unloading heavy containers, separating and baling materials, and preparing them for shipment both on and off base. The position also operates recycling center machinery and trucks up to 7.5 ton capacity. In addition, the incumbent serves as an alternate Recycling Center Leader, leading work crews and ensuring adherence to safety regulations while maintaining equipment, vehicles, and a safe, clean work environment.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Ability to identify various recycling commodities and experience in disposal of solid waste and recycling techniques.
2. Knowledge of accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and material handling techniques; sufficient to receive, store, issue, ship, pickup, deliver, preserve and account for general, oversized, or specialized bulk materials and equipment.
3. Knowledge and skill to safely operate one or more electric, gasoline, diesel, or LPG powered fork lift trucks with a capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, sufficient to handle controls for starting, stopping, backing, lifting, lowering, and tilting; the ability to maneuver bulky material both inside and outside in rough or muddy terrain and in places where there is little room to stack or maneuver, and the ability to accurately gauge height, length, width, and weight of a load and determine proper warehousing/storage location.
4. Knowledge of operating safety rules and regulations, including proper maintenance of equipment such as vehicles and machinery.
5. Ability to safely drive and operate a motor vehicle sufficient to manipulate controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions and in judging overhead, side clearance, turning radius, and braking distance.
6. Ability to distribute work assignments to the work crew and to monitor work in progress to assure the use of proper work and safety procedures.
7. Ability to discern when training in work processes or safety procedures is needed and to report it to the supervisor.
8. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.

7. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
8. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
9. Shift work may be required.
10. May on an irregular basis operate passenger vehicles as required.
11. This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.
12. The work will require the employee to drive various types of motor vehicles. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Employee will be required to undertake training/examination to obtain a valid category C1 driving license if the employee does not already possess this license category. Category C1 training/examination will be funded by the unit. Employee will be required to drive various types of motor vehicles on a daily basis, including 7.5 tonne vehicles (Cat C1). Failure to successfully complete the training/examination within 6 months due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to complete the training/examination is due to circumstances outside employee's control, management will establish a reasonable time frame for completion.
13. Employee must be physically capable to operate a wide range of vehicles and material handling equipment including, but not limited to; car, panel van, 7.5 tonne vehicle, high lift picking equipment, forklifts, electric pallet stackers etc.
14. The employee will be required to undertake training of various types; to include but not limited to, the ability to drive a 7.5 tonne vehicle and forklift.
15. An appropriate, CAT B and CAT C1 (Training will be provided) valid driver's license is required for the position.
