We are looking for dynamic and experienced clinical reviewers to join our BANK of clinical reviewers to deliver high-quality death in custody clinical reviews.
You will be responsible for liaising with the Prison and Probation Ombudsman's Investigator to conduct timely independent clinical reviews that meet the PPO and NHS England Health and Justice Commissioner's quality standards.
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated, currently practising clinicians, with a proven track record as investigator and/or clinical reviewers in the custodial healthcare sector, NHS secure environments, or police detention.
You will be a Registered Doctor on the General Medical Council or a Registered Nurse with the NMC. You will:
* Have current clinical or healthcare management responsibility with up-to-date clinical practice and evidence of professional development.
* Be on the relevant professional register (GMC/NMC) and have worked in a clinical or healthcare management role for at least 5 years.
* Have evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Possess a minimum of 5 years' experience in a clinical role.
* Attend at least one bi-annual review meeting held at the local office in Wakefield or via Microsoft Teams.
* Complete bespoke clinical review induction training.
With excellent investigative and analytical skills and sensitivity to the role, you will be able to build respect, develop effective working relationships, and partnerships.
Main duties of the job
To carry out clinical reviews related to the death of a person in custody (or released on temporary licence) from prisons, Young Offender Institutions, Secure Children's Homes, Immigration Removal Centres, Courts, or Approved Premises.
To undertake level 1, 2, and 3 investigations into the clinical circumstances surrounding the death, working closely and making early contact with the Prison and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) Investigator.
To produce accurate and timely reports following NHS England guidance.
To provide comprehensive care reviews, including an evaluation of the equivalence of care in secure environments compared to care in the community.
To develop SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely) recommendations for improvements in care and service delivery where appropriate.
To raise any urgent issues of concern with Commissioners via the Death in Custody Service Manager.
To attend inquests when required by HM Coroner to give evidence based on investigation findings.
To participate in continuous professional development to ensure service quality.

Qualifications

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, to screen for any criminal convictions.
£1,000 to £1,250 per session, calculated based on the level of clinical review.
