Consultant Anaesthetist with Interest in Vascular Anaesthesia
Job Overview
We’re excited to invite a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our dynamic, forward‑thinking department. This is an opportunity for someone with experience or interest in vascular and airway anaesthesia to make a real impact in a supportive and innovative environment. Experience of neuroanaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and working in a major trauma centre would also be valuable.
Our department has proudly held ACSA Accreditation since 2015 and is known for its clinical excellence and strong research culture.
Main Duties of the Job
Providing high‑quality anaesthesia services across a broad range of specialties, including general surgery, major trauma, obstetrics and neurosurgery (all covered by on‑call duties). Commits to compassionate, person‑centred care of the highest standard.
Contributing to teaching and training through partnership with the University of Plymouth: mentoring junior doctors, delivering lectures, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate clinical learning. Encouraged to participate in continuing medical education and quality improvement activities.
Shape and deliver a personalised job plan in collaboration with the Service Line Director, reflecting individual skills, interests and preferred working patterns.
Support departmental sustainability and work‑life balance through flexible working and phased on‑call arrangements.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Opportunity to negotiate a personalized 10PA job plan. Typical job plan includes 1.5 PAs of generic Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) time, tailored to education, management, research or quality improvement responsibilities.
First‑on call rota for anaesthesia (excluding cardiac, ICU and paediatrics) supported by a second‑on call consultant. Expectations during on‑call: within 30 minutes of the hospital for first‑on call, within 45 minutes for second‑on call.
Person Specification
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice and no restrictions on practice.
* CESR or CCT or expected within 6 months.
* Excellent patient and colleague feedback.
* Vascular SIA or extensive experience.
* SIA in advanced airway.
* Publications or oral presentations.
