Main function of the job
* Maintain support skills at a current level and undertake training and development as required to keep that currency of practice.
* Provide support in accordance with current best practice, policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, and relevant regulations under the direction of the Manager, and within the agreed financial plans.
* Carry out duties that may reasonably be required in addition to these functions.
Main duties (not in any order of priority)
1. Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service.
2. Support an open, positive and inclusive working culture.
3. Participate in the development of the services procedures.
4. Participate in evaluation of the service against agreed organisational goals, business, and quality objectives through annual staff survey. Work with your manager to establish effective employer‑employee relationships and minimise legal risks by following required guidelines.
5. Participate in the maintenance of the services information systems.
6. Assist in the implementation of support policies and procedures, including maintaining standards required by legislation related to service registration. Follow the managers plans to act within the services budget based on the services objectives.
Development of practice in support services
1. Assist in the development of philosophy, goals and objectives for the support practice.
2. Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of support implementation and delivery.
3. Ensure your practice meets and maintains support standards. Work in cooperation with members of multidisciplinary health teams to maximize opportunities for therapeutic support for the people we support.
4. Ensure the rights of the people we support are protected. Record relevant activities in Nourish. Participate in managements assessments of competence as required.
Professional Practice
1. Encourage innovative methods for the delivery of support and communication in facilitating people living their best life, including:
o Providing personal care such as showering, shaving, oral hygiene and dressing, encouraging self‑care whenever possible.
o Assisting with household and daily living tasks and supporting people to develop their skills, for example making beds and keeping the environment clean and hygienic.
o Encouraging and ensuring good nutrition, assisting in preparing meals, assisting with feeding and hydration.
o Accompanying individuals to appointments with clinics, GPs, health professionals, hospitals, and other relevant services.
o Enabling the people we support to be a part of their wider community.
2. Encourage health promotion within support strategies, including:
o Administering medication and treatments as prescribed by healthcare professionals and updating on changes in patient behaviour or condition.
o Monitoring health and wellbeing, maintaining vital signs such as pulse, temperature, and blood pressure and reporting any changes.
o Promoting mental well‑being by providing emotional support and companionship.
3. Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
4. Promote a positive image for residency and employment within the service.
Participation in team development
1. Co‑operate with the implementation, evaluation, orientation and induction of all new employees.
2. Contribute to the implementation of the services policies and procedures.
3. Contribute to the effective resolution of team conflicts.
4. Contribute to a constructive and supportive work atmosphere.
5. Contribute to the support and maintenance of a culture of performance and excellence.
