Are you over 18 and you love coaching/building a good rapport with children? Whether you're a dab hand with a cricket bat, an expert at football or have a flair for dance, this could be the opportunity for you

Team Durham Holiday Camps are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and hardworking individuals to work on sport and activity camps, mainly for primary school aged children. Our holiday camps provide a range of exciting activities for young people from across the county aged between 5 and 16 years old. They include our popular multi sports camps, as well as specialised camps (i.e. tennis, hockey, basketball adventure, dance and drama etc). Training will be provided in advance on behaviour management/safeguarding/typical day at camps/timetable overview etc

Our camps run at Easter and in the summer (4 weeks) each year and all take place at The Sports and Wellbeing Park, Stockton road, Durham, DH1 3SE.

The role is both fun and rewarding but can also be quite strenuous; being a coach for the holiday camps will involve coaching or assisting for full days, a minimum of 1 week and maximum of 4 weeks during the summer. You will be supported by a great team of volunteers and will be working with up to 16 children at any given time. The normal working day will be either the early shift (8:15am-4.45pm) or late shift (9:00am-5:30pm) including a half hour unpaid lunch break.

You will be paid on Durham University Casual Rate 1 per hour (£12.60) plus holiday pay.

Duties include:

· Planning, preparation and delivery of a range of structured sport and activities sessions (usually 4-5 per day)

· Working as a team to actively supervise children throughout the day including during registration, sign out, lunch and break times

· Adhering to policies and procedure to ensure children have a fun and safe time

· Proactively welcoming children and leading activities during registration/sign out

· Flexibility within working practices, such as working with a range of age groups and running or assisting sports and activities which are not your speciality

· Professional attitude to all duties, demonstrating a mature and responsible attitude

· Completing mandatory training throughout the year

Person Specification

Essential:

· Minimum Level 1 qualification in a sport or equivalent in dance/movement

· Experience and interest in some of the sports and activities on offer

· Relevant experience of leading groups of children

· Adaptable and able to show initiative in dealing with challenging situations

· Strong communication skills and an enthusiastic approach to the role

· Safety conscious and can identify control measures to minimise risk (dynamic and ongoing risk assessments)

· Aged over 18 and have a right to work in the UK

Desirable:

· Level 2 qualification in one or more sports or equivalent in dance/movement

· Previous holiday camp work experience

· Experience of working with different key stage age groups

· Ability to work as part of a team and motivate others

· Good sense of fun and know how to keep young people entertained

· Enthusiasm and lots of energy

Application process

· If you have any questions before applying, please contact Phill Hancock at

· Successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview/complete a practical assessment

· Successful applicants will be required to attend a training/induction session before their first day on camps. Training will include safeguarding, behaviour management and planning and running activities.

Team Durham is committed to safeguarding and ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
