NSB Recruitment are working with a thriving, independent consultancy who are looking for a commercially minded Associate Director – Ecology to join their senior leadership team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious ecologist to take the lead, shape the future of an established ecology team, and play a pivotal role in the wider business. With offices across the UK and a strong Bristol base, our client delivers expert ecological advice on a diverse portfolio of projects – from national infrastructure and renewable energy schemes to bespoke conservation and biodiversity initiatives. As Associate Director, you’ll combine technical expertise with project leadership, team management, and business development skills. You will oversee high-profile ecological projects, mentor and grow the team, and help steer the long-term direction of the ecology service. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage complex ecological projects from inception to delivery, ensuring technical excellence and outstanding client service. Provide technical oversight across surveys, EcIA, HRA, and mitigation strategies. Line-manage, mentor, and develop consultants across the ecology team. Build and strengthen client relationships, identifying opportunities and supporting tender submissions. Contribute to company strategy as part of the senior leadership team, championing innovation and sustainability. Represent the business at industry events and within professional networks. About You Degree in ecology, environmental science, or related discipline. Minimum 8 years’ consultancy experience, including team or project leadership. Strong knowledge of UK & EU environmental legislation and policy. Proven track record in delivering and managing complex, multidisciplinary projects. Excellent client-facing and business development skills. Full member of CIEEM (or eligible) with protected species licence(s). Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel. Desirable: Chartered Ecologist (or working towards), experience in BNG, nature-based solutions, or habitat banking, and broader understanding of climate resilience and environmental planning.
