Compensation
Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
Hours and flexibility
It is Tesco policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you would prefer to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12), there are opportunities available and we would still love to hear from you.
We schedule contracted hours within the advertised availability windows and provide 3 weeks’ notice of shifts. We are flexible with timing and welcome applications even if your availability does not match exactly.
Customer focus
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As a Shift Leader you will oversee store operations, support colleagues, and help ensure a smooth shopping experience for customers, on the shop floor and beyond.
Responsibilities
* Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety
* Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations
* Assist customers and ensure they leave with what they came for
* Coach colleagues and provide feedback to improve service
* Guide and support colleagues to maintain a safe workplace
* Understand store performance and assist managers in driving improvements
* Lead from the front and set a positive example

* Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience

* Opening and closing the store and ensuring safety in all decisions
* Being the go-to person in the absence of a manager for day-to-day queries
* Maintaining a clean, tidy, and well-presented store
* Supporting managers with seasonal, community, and charity events
* Fostering an inclusive team atmosphere and providing great customer service
* Keeping the team informed of communications and updates
* Staying knowledgeable about store performance and seeking improvements
* Coordinating store improvements and removing obstacles to great service
* Following health and safety procedures
* Recognising and celebrating colleagues for great service
