Consultant Psychiatrist - General Adult Inpatient Psychiatry, Whalley (10PA)
RRP payment Payable. This post will attract a Recruitment & Retention Premium. Two substantive, full-time Consultant Psychiatrists are sought to join the General Adult Psychiatry team at the Whalley Inpatient Unit, which opened in 2023. The wards provide inpatient treatment for patients with moderate and severe mental health difficulties. The post holders will have no responsibility for outpatient work. Participation on the Consultant On Call rota is required, with additional remuneration.
Responsibilities
The Whalley site comprises two acute 12-bed wards and an 8-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Two Consultants will work across the unit, each taking responsibility for a 12-bed acute ward and half of the PICU patients. The Consultant will provide medical leadership to the inpatient multidisciplinary team (MDT) and will work with a Specialty Doctor and Junior Doctors. The MDT includes Mental Health Nursing, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and input from Social Workers from the relevant Local Authority.
Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date. It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status. Remuneration will be as set out in the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.
