Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Team Manager, Children's Residential

Are you an experienced Children's Residential Support Worker ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have a passion for therapeutic care and the leadership skills to inspire and guide a dedicated team?

The Role:

As an Assistant Team Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth, safe, and effective running of the home. You will be instrumental in maintaining our therapeutic environment, providing guidance and supervision to the care team, and ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance are met. This is a dynamic role that blends direct therapeutic work with young people with key supervisory and managerial responsibilities.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

* Operational Leadership & Management:
o Assist the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management and leadership of the residential home, ensuring the home operates in line with all relevant legislation, regulations (e.g., Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards), and Ofsted requirements.
o Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, taking responsibility for the overall management of the home, staff, and young people.
o Support the Registered Manager in achieving and maintaining an Ofsted rating of 'Good' or 'Outstanding'.
*
o Provide regular, high-quality reflective supervision and appraisal to Residential Support Workers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring best practice.
o Contribute to the recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of new staff members.
o Promote a positive and supportive team culture, encouraging open communication and professional development.
o Oversee staff rotas and deployment to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
*
o Champion the home's therapeutic model, ensuring that all care interventions are child-centred, trauma-informed, and aligned with individual care plans.
o Work directly with young people, providing therapeutic support and engagement, and acting as a consistent and reliable adult.
o Oversee the development, implementation, and review of comprehensive care plans, risk assessments, and placement plans for young people, ensuring they are regularly updated and reflective of their needs and progress.
o Collaborate with internal and external professionals (e.g., social workers, therapists, educators) to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to care.
*
o Maintain an absolute commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all young people in the home.
o Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are rigorously adhered to, and concerns are reported promptly and appropriately.
o Manage and respond to incidents and challenging behaviours in a calm, therapeutic, and effective manner, leading by example.
o Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential records, including daily logs, incident reports, and financial records.
o Contribute to internal quality assurance processes and prepare for external inspections.
o Ensure the physical environment of the home is safe, clean, and conducive to a therapeutic living space.

What we are looking for:

* Essential:
o Minimum of 2 years' recent experience working as a Senior Residential Support Worker or similar supervisory role within a children's residential setting.
o A Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (or equivalent) is essential.
o A strong understanding and demonstrable commitment to therapeutic approaches in residential child care.
o Proven ability to manage challenging situations calmly and therapeutically.
o A full UK Driving License is highly desirable.
* Desirable:
o Working towards or holding a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
o Experience of contributing to Ofsted inspections.
