Overview
Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor based in Chester within the Mental Health Intensive Support Service. The service provides specialist assessment, treatment, interventions and support to help people recover from complex mental health problems and regain skills and confidence to live successfully in the community.
You will work with a small cohort of patients, alongside the Key Worker and Senior Occupational Therapist, providing high quality levels of care to support independent living and recovery.
You will help ensure patients engage with agreed care plans and promote inclusion in local community services to develop daily living skills, building rapport and an effective therapeutic relationship under the supervision of the MDT.

* Support the MDT in delivering intensive support to a small cohort of patients and contribute to recovery-focused care.
* Work with the Key Worker and Senior Occupational Therapist to plan, monitor and adapt patient care.
* Assist in identifying relapse indicators and promoting independence.
* Encourage patient engagement with agreed care plans and uptake of local community services.
* Build rapport and therapeutic relationships to plan and monitor interventions and treatments under MDT supervision.
Qualifications
Essential
* NVQ Level III or equivalent in relevant subject area
* Food Hygiene training or willingness to gain within 3 months of appointment
* COSHH training or willingness to gain within 6 months of appointment
* First Aid training or willingness to gain within 6 months of appointment
Desirable
* Higher level education qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* High level of coordination and organisational skills
* Basic risk assessment and risk management skills
* Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
* Computer literacy
* Basic understanding of issues affecting people with mental illness or learning disability in a rehabilitation setting
* Basic awareness of health and social care issues
Desirable
* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice or other therapies
* Skills and interest in activities and interventions such as psychoeducation, creative activities, domestic skills, horticulture, exercise
Experience
Essential
* At least three years’ experience in a health care setting
* Experience of organising and leading individual or group therapeutic activities
* Experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions
Desirable
* Experience of rehabilitation in adult mental health
* Experience of working in the community
* Experience delivering adult education or psychoeducation
* Experience in an Occupational Therapy team
