Job Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen to work at the Royal Marsden Hospital within the Private Care Consultant Billing Team. The successful candidate should ideally have previous experience working with consultants within a private care environment. They should have a flexible approach to duties and be able to work both as part of a team and independently. Excellent communication, administrative and IT skills, and supportiveness to new initiatives are required.

Main Duties
* Oversee a variety of tasks as Consultant Billing Manager, including managing the Consultant Billing Team.
* Handle account setup and maintenance, billing accuracy investigations, query management, and debt escalations within the Billing and Credit Control department.
* Communicate and negotiate issues tactfully and diplomatically while maintaining a firm approach when necessary.
* Drive the performance of the Consultant Billing Team autonomously and proactively to meet billing and debt targets.
* Build and maintain relationships across the Private Care Directorate and collaborate with teams to improve the Consultant Billing offering.
* Identify query trends with Credit Control, Billing Managers and Team Leaders, and implement corrective actions to prevent delays in consultant payment processing.
* Lead regular cross‑department meetings to identify key risks or trends and develop remedial plans to maintain service levels.
* Create and review the Consultant Dashboard and monthly/annual reports on consultant payment, invoice and debt activity.
* Maintain consultant billing SOPs and training guides, ensuring adherence.
* Lead, plan and implement service improvements for the billing process, enhance service fees and overall customer experience.

Person Specification
Education
* GCSEs in Mathematics and English Language
* A level equivalent qualification
* Post‑graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field, or equivalent significant experience
Experience
Essential Criteria
* Financial and account management experience
* Sector‑specific experience (public sector, NHS or private patient)
* Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial managers and work with clinical & operational managers to support decision‑making
* Strong skills in Excel and finance systems
* Staff management experience
* Knowledge of invoicing clinical treatment for all sponsor types
* Data interpretation and problem‑solving with complex datasets to identify and reduce financial risks and propose workable solutions
Desirable Criteria
* Understanding of the Private Patients Financial framework within the NHS Trust
* Experience working with consultants regarding their clinical activity for billing purposes
* Experience with Compucare, EPIC, SBS, Healthcode
* Experience contributing to or managing financial aspects of projects, service transformation or cost improvement programmes
* Specialist knowledge of NHS payment and payroll systems
