Customer representative

Worthing
Nationwide - UK
Customer representative
Posted: 7h ago
Offer description

At Nationwide, a Customer Representative role involves supporting our customers across all channels. This includes handling transactions at the till, managing inbound calls, and assisting with digital product applications. Training will be provided to ensure you deliver first-class service in person, over the phone, and online.

This role is vital within the branch, serving as a gateway to protect and assist our members, working closely as part of a team. Some branches may be closed to the public on certain days, with staff assisting members via phone.

We are recruiting future talent from our communities to work in our Worthing branches. Interviews will be conducted to build a talent bank for this location.

If the role is part-time, the salary will be pro-rata. If a suitable role is not available at the time of your interview, and your assessment is successful, your details will be stored in our talent bank and given priority for future vacancies matching your profile. Your details will be retained for 6 months.

You should live within a 45-minute commute of the branch. Despite branch closures elsewhere, Nationwide maintains the UK’s largest branch network with over 600 branches. If your preferred location is outside this radius, please check other vacancies.

Training will be conducted virtually in-branch. The first 3 weeks of training are crucial, and during this period, no holidays should be taken.

If we receive a high volume of applications, the posting may close early, so apply promptly.

What you’ll be doing

Each branch is unique, and teamwork is essential to provide the best service. The role is versatile: you’ll work at the counter, completing transactions, and educating members on digital banking options. A significant part of your role involves addressing customer queries online, via phone, and face-to-face.

Building knowledge daily ensures we can answer all customer questions, making them the focus of our work.

About you

We value your experience and skills, but also who you are. Our diverse customer base reflects the importance of diversity among our employees.

If you genuinely want to make a difference, this role offers the opportunity to improve lives—guiding customers through online banking and discussing our services, adapting your approach to their needs. Comfort with digital tools is essential.

We are the frontline in protecting our customers and building our society.

Our customer-first behaviours are central to our culture:

* Feel what customers feel - Empathise by understanding their needs through feedback and insights.
* Say it straight - Be honest and clear, sharing diverse perspectives openly.
* Push for better - Challenge mediocrity, seek continuous improvement.
* Get it done - Prioritise impactful actions, be decisive, and accountable.

Show how these behaviours resonate with you and where you have demonstrated them in your application.

The extras you’ll get

Our employee benefits include:

* A personal pension with employer contributions
* Up to 2 days paid volunteering annually
* Pro-rata 25 days holiday
* Life assurance (8x salary)
* Additional benefits via salary sacrifice
* Performance-related bonus
* Training and development opportunities
* Health and wellness options through Wellhub

Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for society’s benefit

As a mutual owned by our members, we challenge the financial sector status quo, sharing profits and prioritising customer needs. We aim to support and improve our communities and society.

If you’re inspired by fairer finance, making an impact, and caring for customers, you’re one of us.

At Nationwide, you’re encouraged to grow and are rewarded for your efforts. We value, recognize, and inspire our team to excel, working for the benefit of customers, communities, and society.

We are Purpose-driven. Uncompromisingly Customer. Unstoppably Nationwide.
