* Job Title: Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
* Service Line: Male Low Secure
* Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
* Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager
We are seeking an experienced part-time / any 3 days per week Consultant Psychiatrist who will work at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone and provide senior medical cover on Saltwood Ward, a 17 bed low secure service for men with enduring mental illness, including personality disorder. The multidisciplinary team is integrated and works as one, sharing expertise. The Trust also has extensive community links that help service users transition toward discharge, keeping lengths of stay to a minimum.
Responsibilities
* Lead the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Saltwood Ward.
* Act as a positive role model, maintaining a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors and other staff.
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
* Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations of service users.
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis and treatment.
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits.
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and embed clinical governance within the service.
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers’ hearings and attend hearings.
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required.
* Maintain accurate patient records.
* Maintain regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, directors and other concerned bodies through appropriate reports.
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by the GMC, the Department of Health and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Contribute to the Telephone On‑call rota.

Qualifications
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status.
* Experienced & knowledgeable in Forensic Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis.
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity.
* Strong communication skills for interviewing, assessing & treating patients & for writing clear, comprehensive medical notes.
* Committed to continued professional development.
* Able to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent.
Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check. An offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
