Job Summary
The Primary Care Pharmacy Technician will work alongside the practice Clinical Pharmacist to support the practice clinical team in all aspects of prescribing and medicines safety, aiming to improve patient care and manage safe prescribing practices.
Salary: Available upon request
Hours: 18 hours a week (part-time, flexible) – maternity cover for minimum 9 months during February 2026 start.
Contract: Fixed term, 9 months.

The practice uses Vision Clinical system and is situated 25 minutes from Cardiff.
Job Description
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Support the Clinical Pharmacist and the clinical team to provide safe and effective repeat prescribing services.
* Comply with legal, professional and safe system requirements for re‑authorising repeat prescriptions.
* Coordinate medication review appointments and changes of medication as advised.
* Conduct medicines reconciliation post discharge and on transfers of care.
* Handle day‑to‑day prescription queries within own competence.
* Use and maintain reporting systems: incident reporting, prescribing data, patient outcomes.
* Participate in practice and clinical meetings to discuss prescribing and workflow improvements.
* Plan, organize and manage workload, meeting deadlines.
* Support Share Care monitoring and processes.
* Deliver training and development to prescribing clerks and administrators, improving pharmacy administration.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with GP practices, clinics and other healthcare professionals.
* Communicate with pharmacies regarding drug supply, alerts and alternatives.
* Maintain and protect sensitive information in line with GDPR, Caldecott and confidentiality code.
* Conduct prescribing audits using GP practice systems.
* Assist with the UHB Medicines Management Incentive Scheme.
* Act on major MHRA drug alerts within competence levels and advise on medication changes.
* Elevate equality, diversity, openness and safeguarding standards across the practice.
Qualifications & Experience
* Essential Qualifications: GCSE A to C.
* Desirable Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science.
* Essential Experience: Working in primary care pharmacy.
* Other requirements: Current UK professional registration; fit for Disclosure and Barring Service checks; potentially Skilled Worker sponsorship support available.
Other Information
Applicants will submit a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
