The following job description outlines the duties that the gas service/breakdown engineer is expected to perform within the Company. The listed duties are not exhaustive and additional requirements may be added; flexibility in your role is essential.
JOB TITLE:
MOBILE COMMERCIAL GAS SERVICE / BREAKDOWN ENGINEER
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT:
COVERING MIDLANDS (BIRMINGHAM/COVENTRY)
You will be required to travel to various locations within Birmingham & Coventry as reasonably required for the proper performance of your duties.
SALARY:
GBP50,000 - GBP55,000
HOURS:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (40 hours per week)

This position is subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS and reference checks.
Summary of Duties:
* Service and maintenance of gas appliances in commercial and domestic properties.
* Boiler fault finding in both commercial and domestic settings.
Main Duties:
* Attend to service requests and reactive breakdowns, fault find, diagnose, and repair efficiently and cost-effectively.
* Utilize your boiler fault-finding expertise to ensure high first-time fix rates and excellent customer care.
* Perform routine responsive maintenance, servicing, and repairs as instructed.
* Conduct servicing and safety checks on heating systems, identifying necessary works to ensure compliance with current gas/oil safety regulations.
* Respond to boiler/system breakdowns, inspecting and identifying required repairs for proper functioning.
* Make immediate decisions regarding repair requirements if initial job assessments are insufficient, informing the relevant director.
* Communicate with tenants about repair progress, especially if a repair cannot be completed in one visit, and arrange follow-up visits.
* Protect tenant furnishings during work.
* Supervise helpers during assembly or installation of heating systems or components.
* Coordinate with management and clients to ensure timely completion of work.
* Ensure all work complies with safety standards and current codes.
* Adhere to client rules and regulations on-site.
* Seek cost-effective materials and solutions.
* Maintain up-to-date training relevant to the role.
* Complete all documentation accurately and promptly.
* If using a company vehicle, operate it according to company policies.
* Operate, maintain, and test company property such as tools, uniforms, and vehicles safely and properly.
* Proactively identify and quote for additional work where appropriate.
* Conduct site audits, vehicle inspections, post-work reviews, and participate in meetings.
* Follow company policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential:
* Recognized gas apprenticeship and valid ACS commercial gas certificates (e.g., CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1, CDGA1, CIGA1, TPCP1, TPCP1A, COMCAT).
* Experience with gas systems in the commercial sector, including fault analysis, servicing, and maintenance.
* Proficiency with test equipment, including electrical multi-meters.
* Flexible approach due to the mobile nature of the role.
* Willingness to work additional hours and overtime as needed.
