Overview
Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a visionary Locality Medical Director (Great Yarmouth & Waveney) & Medical Director (Standards) to join the senior leadership team. This is a pivotal role, working as part of a triumvirate with the Locality Director of Operations and Locality Director of Nursing and Quality. You will provide strategic, visible, clinical, and professional leadership across the locality, delivering high-quality services focused on safety, effectiveness, and patient experience.
As Medical Director (Standards), you will oversee professional standards for all Trust medical staff, act as Deputy Responsible Officer, and provide senior clinical leadership to clinical audit and medicines optimisation programmes. The Deputy RO will support the Medical Responsible Officer (RO) who oversees clinical governance and medical revalidation for NSFT, ensuring doctors’ conduct and performance meet national standards. The RO oversees annual appraisals for doctors, fitness-to-practice investigations, and revalidation recommendations to the GMC, maintaining robust local governance to uphold patient safety and quality of care. The Deputy RO will provide additional support to the RO and ensure consistency of job planning for non-training grade doctors, and oversight of the mentoring scheme for NSFT doctors.
The Deputy RO will support appraisals, revalidation, and MHPS processes as well as the mentoring and governance activities. A clinical role (1 PA) can be taken up alongside the above roles within the candidate’s area of specialism, to be discussed with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage services at locality level, developing strategic plans aligned with Trust strategy.
* Ensure clinical engagement, governance, safety, and risk management.
* Represent the Trust in partnerships with commissioners, Integrated Care Partnerships, and external stakeholders.
* Oversee medical appraisals, revalidation, and support the Responsible Officer in maintaining robust governance systems.
* Provide professional leadership to Associate Medical Directors and all grades of doctors within the locality.
* Support recruitment, induction, and ongoing development of medical staff.
* Promote equality, inclusion, and service user involvement in service development.
* Participate in the management on-call rota and contribute to Trust-wide strategic vision.
