The CNC Machinist role is based in York, North Yorkshire. Salary: £18.95 - £19.50 per hour (£38,428 - £39,572 per year, DOE). Hours: 39 per week (Mon-Thu 8:00am - 5:00pm; Fri 8:00am - 4:00pm). Contract: Permanent, full-time. Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays. Overtime: Weekdays 1.33x | Weekends 1.5x.
A long-established precision engineering company in York is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join its team. The company delivers high-quality, bespoke engineering projects—from one-off prototypes to production runs—across multiple industries. This is a permanent position with structured hours, competitive pay, excellent overtime rates, and the chance to work on varied, technically interesting projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Set, operate, and program CNC machines (milling, turning, boring, grinding)
* Interpret CAD drawings and technical documentation with accuracy
* Use SolidWorks 3D modelling and Fusion 360 programming daily
* Produce precision components to tight tolerances with high attention to detail
* Identify and correct non-conforming work, suggesting improvements
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to solve problems and improve processes
* Maintain accurate documentation in line with company procedures
* Follow all Health & Safety policies, using PPE and equipment correctly
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, with strong skills in turning and milling
* Ability to set up and operate multiple CNC machines confidently
* Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings and CAD models
* Proficient in SolidWorks and Fusion 360 (essential)
* Knowledge of Mazatrol and Hurco systems (desirable)
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work
* Strong communicator and effective team player
* Safety-conscious with a proactive and flexible approach
