The project:
Mace has been appointed as the lead project controls and PMO team for a large-scale complex government programme with a construction value estimated to be £4.8 billion. Mace consult will provide project controls and PMO services for the new build and refurbishment construction work of multiple secure sites throughout the UK.

To support project managers in the delivery of projects by providing high-level planning service for the preparation of project plans, producing baseline scheduled tasks, resource profiles and financial models. The successful person will be involved in improving the consistency, predictability and efficiency of the programme project delivery capability provides leadership in best practices and is highly customer-focused - outward and upward and that these are consistent with customer expectations.
The role will ensure that the operational issues of the project controls and PMO are managed, focusing on the project interface with project leaders, project managers, project teams, and interface issues.
You’ll be responsible for:
5. Manages and directs clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams on assigned commission(s) on all risk management matters.
6. Partners with clients meeting their expectations and building strong professional relationships.
7. Provides expert advice and support to project/programme teams in the administration of the risk process, particularly with respect to the risks to achievement of key project objectives and escalation of risks.
8. Facilitates and drives the delivery of risk workshops.
9. Works with project managers to recognise opportunities and mitigations to minimise risk exposure.
10. Accountable for ensuring risk mitigation action plans are developed, risk and action owners appointed and that project plans are updated accordingly and monitored.
11. Comments on the adequacy of contingency as part of the regular reporting cycle as required.
12. Develops and delivers monthly risk reports, externally to the client and internally to the project team.
13. Ensures all activities/operations are carried out in line with Mace control centre, client requirements and prevailing legislation.
14. Utilises expertise to mentor and assist the personal and career development of junior members of the risk team.
15. Leads the integration of risk with PMO and planning disciplines.
You’ll need to have:
16. Good understanding of construction projects, decencies and interfaces within the project lifecycle
17. Deep domain knowledge of providing risk leadership in one or more sectors (e.g. rail, highways, nuclear, public sector, hospitals).
18. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
19. Excellent working knowledge of current methodologies and tools related to managing projects (e.g. MS Excel, Risk Hive, PRA, ARM, Primavera P6).
20. Extremely collaborative, with ability to build excellent working relationships and have very high political sensitivity and ethics.
21. Excellent attention to detail and ability to validate and check risk management inputs, recording and reports produced, providing basic commentary and analysis.
22. Able to persuade and influence clients, consultants, suppliers and colleagues.
23. Infrastructure and complex project procurement experience.
24. A degree or equivalent with professional work experience in one or more specific disciplines in the construction, programme, project or commercial management disciplines.
25. Membership/Fellow/Certified Fellow status with one or more professional institutions.
