Senior Critical Care ECMO Specialist Nurse - Band 7
We are excited to recruit for a senior critical care ECMO specialist nurse to join our Adult Critical Care Unit at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. This key role supports the ECMO service and the provision of critical care expertise, through the delivery of specialist education, clinical support, and training. With a strong clinical focus this post offers the opportunity for an individual to contribute to the ongoing development of our service, utilise their advanced clinical skills and knowledge, and gain further experience in audit, research, and guideline development.
Main duties of the job
The senior critical care ECMO specialist nurse is an essential member of the critical care team with specific responsibility for supporting patients requiring advanced critical care therapies, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The successful candidate will be a clinical expert, responsible for directing care and providing advanced knowledge and skills, to ensure the aims and objectives of both the critical care unit and ECMO service are met.
As a clinical leader the successful post holder will provide direct supervision and facilitate training and educational opportunities for staff to achieve and maintain the required ECMO and critical care competencies relevant to their role.
In addition, the post holder will play a vital role in the continued development of the speciality, identify opportunities to enhance the patient and family experience, and engage in data collection, clinical audit, and research activities both at a local and national level

Essential criteria
1. NMC registration
2. Adult critical care course
3. Adult ECLS education/training programme
4. Relevant first degree or equivalent
5. Mentorship course or equivalent
6. Adult ILS / ALS provider
7. Leadership programme or equivalent
8. Adult transfer / transport experience
Desirable criteria
9. Masters or working towards
10. Post graduate certification in Education
11. SIM Debrief /Train the Trainer course

12. Extensive post registration experience in specialist setting
