Our people make the difference. The Building Systems UK, Shotton site requires a Chemical Engineer to cover the increased area of responsibility. As a major restructure, the new role will work as part of a team to proactively lead the process of business establishment and team development with regard to all aspects of Process safety engineering. They will need to liaise with senior management, other functional managers, support services, and third parties to deliver the business’ objectives overcoming any issues that may occur. A key personal attribute being flexibility and an ability to adapt to ever changing demands. To be technically proficient in all areas of process safety eg HAZOP, PHA etc. They will be fully accountable for the legislative compliance in the field of pressure regs, PUWER, LOLER,HAZOP,PHA Equipment compliance and all appropriate safety legislation. Equipment safety and reliability as well as legislative compliance are the Primary objectives of the role. To carry out this role effectively the job holder will need to be a “professionally” qualified Engineer. What You Will Do Implementation & execution of all Process safety Chemical engineering activities associated with Steel Processing, Roll Forming, Slitting & Fabricating and Composite panels This will include project, process development & maintenance activities within the chemical processing systems and associated plant and equipment. Ensure an understanding of, and compliance with, all relevant policies and procedures and to meet all legal & company statutory regulations. This will include cranes, lifting equipment, pressure vessels, LEV’s and all process safety critical plant and components. Managing and developing layout of new processes and defining the equipment specification and confirmation of equipment capability. Control & direct the management of contractors to ensure Health & Safety compliance and performance management is maximised when required Manage and monitor the Engineering budget to ensure business targets are maintained. Co-ordinate and direct the Implementation of the Process safety system components and critical plant register Collection of data, monitoring Chemical processes and making system and chemical improvements. Keep abreast of developments in plant/process design and technology and oversee team technical and process improvements. Operate effective receipt, storage and usage procedures to maintain the integrity of critical spares inventory; inclusive of identification of critical spares through business risk analysis. Liaise with Manufacturing and Logistics to maximise unit continuity, including maintenance programmes and product campaigns. Recruit, motivate, train and develop the engineering team, managing its performance and reward to process safety critical plant and components, to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its current and projected objectives. Develop, through team-working a culture of continuous improvement with regard to engineering activities to generate competitive and cost advantage. I.e. TPM programme. What you Will need Educated to degree level in Chemical engineering, ideally a chartered engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Process safety systems. Knowledge of foam system technology, materials and chemicals is essential. The jobholder must have demonstrated managerial success and have the ability to create a high level of trust between commercial, planning and operational functions The ability to negotiate at Senior Management level with major suppliers and contractors. Ability to demonstrate qualities of flexibility, an ability to adapt, initiative, drive and commitment.
