Support Worker/Personal Assistant to Child Job Description
Highly rewarding role available in child's care team
We're looking for the right person to join our lovely little care team just outside Nantwich, helping look after an amazing 13 year old child with cerebral palsy.
We don't think you'll find a more rewarding little person to support and care for than this young person. You'll be helping get them up and ready for school alongside their other personal assistants, helping prepare and give their food, give medication, facilitate choice making and playing.
This role is for a variety of shifts to include a waking night shifts and morning shifts.
Child's Needs:
Child has dysphagia and is tubefed, you'll be taught how to prepare and give a blended diet via gastrostomy and how to care for a gastrostomy site.
Child requires support with their secretion management, you'll be taught how to suction oral and nasal secretions to keep airways safe.
Child has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and uses a hoist for lifting, you'll be taught how to safely move them to allow regular position changes and taught the importance of 24 hour postural management.
Child uses a specialist device for communication, you'll be taught how to use the device so you can facilitate their independence through effective communication.
Alongside their other PAs and family, you'll take the child on walks and trips out in the holidays. You'll help them do fun jobs like letting the chickens and ducks out or collecting their eggs, which they really enjoy. You'll also help with daily therapy or assisting child's therapy team when necessary. Child has physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, music therapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy through the week.
You'll also be required to undertake light household chores, such as the child's laundry, keeping their spaces clean and tidy and cleaning syringes.
We live rurally so a clean driving licence is necessary, as is being a non-smoker.
Experience in caregiving would be great but not essential as full training is given. We are a neurodivergent family so an understanding of autism, ADHD and PDA would be very beneficial. We also have 4 cats in the house.

Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential as all training will be given
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and patient demeanor
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Basic computer skills for documentation purposes
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. You must have held a licence for 5 years.
Hours available:
- 3 x weekend waking night shifts (8pm-8am : 12 hours)
* 3 x morning shifts (6.30am-10.30am)
There is some flexibility in hours, to be discussed, this role is based in our family home in Nantwich.
