Dundee
Scottish Water
Operator
Posted: 8 September
Offer description

Overview

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. Most people don’t give much thought to how water reaches their homes or how leaks are kept under control. But at Scottish Water, that’s exactly what we focus on every day. We’re looking for a Network Service Operator – Leakage to join our team in the East (TAY) area, covering Fife, Tayside, Angus, and Highland Perthshire. You’ll be part of the team working hard to monitor and maintain our water network, managing leakage and pressure to help keep water flowing reliably and efficiently. This role is all about protecting our vital water supply and making sure we meet our regulatory targets—while putting safety, innovation, and best practice at the heart of everything we do.

What you’ll do

* Maintain District Metered Area (DMA) meters and equipment, ensuring everything is working properly.
* Carry out leakage surveys and sweeps to monitor the network’s health.
* Isolate and re-commission parts of the distribution network and carry out step testing to identify issues.
* Install and monitor leakage detection equipment; calibrate and repair loggers, meters, and other essential gear.
* Collect and interpret data from sources like Nightline data and DMA reports to spot potential leaks early.
* Set up, programme, and deploy data-logging devices to support this work.
* Occasionally be involved in sampling when required.

What you’ll need

* Good verbal and written communication skills to keep everyone informed.
* Confidence to work independently and take responsibility for delivering tasks on time.
* A keen eye for detail to accurately record information and interpret data.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a dedication to finding solutions when issues arise.
* A strong Health & Safety mindset; follow policies and procedures closely.
* Ability to learn quickly and get to grips with existing and new computer systems.
* Team player, able to work well with others to meet shared goals.
* Full UK Driving License is essential, as you’ll be out and about across the network.

Looking out for you

We support a good work-life balance and provide generous benefits.

38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays), with the option to buy five more. Paid time off to volunteer in your community is available. Family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave, and flexible working options are in place. Pension and life assurance are provided for your future, along with an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash rewards for savings on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 5. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll start on a salary of £32,650, with performance-driven pay progression up to £38,610.

Job offers are conditional, pending pre-employment screening (references, criminal record checks, license checks, etc.) conducted by a third party. We will obtain your permission before starting these checks.

If you’re interested in this role—or know someone who might be—we’ll be accepting applications until 17 September 2025 at midnight.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying unless they can meet every criterion. If you’re interested but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway. We rarely hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. There’s a learning curve for everyone, so don’t rule yourself out.

We encourage adjustments in our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. We welcome applicants with disabilities or neurodiverse conditions and understand temporary life events, such as menopause.

Scottish Water employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t currently live in Scotland, you’ll need to commit to moving within your first three months.

Finally, candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database automatically.

We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
