What are we looking for in a volunteer?
* Keeps Priority children, young people and their families central in counselling/therapy. Believes in people are the expert of their experiences. Has the ability to quickly understand the needs and challenges faced by individuals and our organisation.
* Believes there’s no such thing as ‘hard to reach’ communities, uses user-informed procedures to ensure accessibility, and seeks feedback to improve the service.
* Aware of and willing to inform themselves about Trauma-Informed approaches and the impact of multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and personalised therapy and care approaches.
* Skills: BACP, BAPT, PTUK, BAAT or other membership/registration. Experience of own Therapy/Counselling as part of training. Safeguarding and Child Protection knowledge. Self-motivated with clear communication skills.
* Experience and knowledge in mental health and wellbeing challenges, socio-economic deprivation and/or marginalised communities. Understanding housing insecurity and its impact on mental health of children, young people and families.
What will you be doing?
We’re urgently looking for an Adult Creative or Talk Based Counsellor or Therapist for our Community Interest Company to meet increasing demand. Responsibilities include developing our provision for parents, carers, adult siblings and wider family members; offering therapy to volunteers and interns; and supporting adults who work with our children, young people and families. You may have experience with remote work and face-to-face sessions with adults and families. You will offer confidential counselling or therapy, work in a holistic person-centred, humanistic or similar approach, build strong therapeutic relationships, and apply Attachment and Trauma-Informed practice. Use creative interventions (play, art, drama, movement, dance, music, sand) as appropriate, along with talk-based approaches. Be committed to sustaining the duration of participants’ work and collaborate to shape the role to fit the organisation’s needs.
