Job overview
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic nurse with a keen interest in urology to support patients in an outpatient setting with diagnostics and follow up clinics. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced urology outpatient department alongside the urology nurse practitioners. The urology service is expanding with the development of a Urology Investigations Unit (UIU).

Main duties of the job
You will be working as part of the Urology Nurse Practitioner Team delivering exceptional care for the patients attending the unit. The unit is expanding its services and will open a Diagnostic Investigations Unit and leading with a Specialised Nursing team undergoing procedures: Local Anaesthetic Trans Perineal Biopsies, Flexible Cystoscopies, Lithotripsy and developing a Urology Assessment Unit. The patients will expect, and will receive, the highest standards of professional care by all members of the team who will be involved.
To work in a clinical environment and provide a high standard of patient care, able to assess and prepare patients for procedures recover and discharge them safely and assess – treat – discharge or admit patients seen in our assessment area. Working in both procedure and assessment clinics alongside the specialist teams will ensure a positive patient experience and optimal Urological outcome and prevent delays in treatment, assessment and intervention.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Coordinating the Local Anaesthetic Trans perineal Prostate (LATP) biopsy clinics and flexible cystoscopy clinics
- Assist clinicians within the diagnostic clinic maintaining accurate patient records and infection control measures
- To support in Trial Without Catheter (TWOC) clinics monitoring urine output, completing flow clinics and urine dip analysis.
- Perform aseptic technique for wound care, drains and catheter care
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications
* Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation & commitment to lifelong learning
* Previous experience in relevant specialty
Knowledge and Experience
* Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload
* Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment
* Demonstrates ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan
* Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
* Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
