Head of Data
£80,000 + Excellent benefits Hybrid role - West Midlands
A Head of Data is required for a senior leadership role accountable for defining and delivering the enterprise data strategy. Responsible for building a trusted, cloud-native data platform (Azure, Fabric, Purview) and embedding data across decision-making, risk, and customer outcomes in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and execute the organisation's data strategy (governance, quality, value).
* Lead Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and Purview platforms (architecture, roadmap, optimisation).
* Establish enterprise data governance (lineage, metadata, controls, compliance).
* Build and lead data engineering and architecture capability (lakehouse, pipelines).
* Drive analytics, BI (Power BI), and AI/ML adoption.
* Lead and develop a high-performing data team; influence senior stakeholders and regulators.
Must-Have Experience
* Head of/Director-level data leadership in financial services or regulated sector.
* Deep expertise in Azure data stack (ADF, Databricks, Synapse, SQL, ADLS, CI/CD).
* Strong experience with Microsoft Purview and data governance frameworks.
* Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
* Strong knowledge of FCA/PRA, GDPR, and data risk/operational resilience.
Nice to Have
* Azure OpenAI/AI experience.
* Relevant Azure or data certifications.
Profile
* Strategic but hands-on leader.
* Strong stakeholder management (Exec, regulators).
* Experience building data capabilities in transformation environments.
