An opportunity has opened up for a graduate electrical engineer to join the STFC Engineering Technology Centre (ETC) at Daresbury Laboratory, Cheshire. The graduate will work alongside a team, consisting of dedicated electrical designers and technicians to deliver innovative solutions to a variety of exciting and sophisticated engineering challenges on projects primarily for the STFC science programme. This will involve the design, assembly, installation and performance testing of engineering systems to be located at various international science facilities.
The engineering activity provided to the Accelerator Science and Particle Physics community is a key part of the provision the UK makes to supporting particle accelerators, light sources and laser facilities. Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Assist the lead electrical engineer and interact closely with internal and scientific community-based engineering teams to deliver international projects.
* Utilise their electrical knowledge, product research and system evaluation to influence the design, assembly, test and commissioning of high performance engineering solutions.
* Negotiate and agree project requirements with customers, produce and monitor project management documentation including; specifications, Gantt charts, resource and procurement plans.
* Plan the work processes of a team, financial resource allocation and workplace health, safety and environment.
* Perform design calculations and prototype testing for challenging engineering problems and produce technical reports.
* Provide electrical engineering consultation and fault diagnosis for a wide range of science applications including vacuum equipment, motion control, protection systems and power quality management.
* Undertake Risk Analysis and value management.
* Manage project files containing all project documentation and chip in to continual improvement within the Divisions BS EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Person Specification
In order to apply for the role we are looking for the following:
Essential:
* Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree, in an electrical and/or electronic engineering degree or similar (S)
* Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment (S)
* Knowledge of CAD software, especially related to electrical engineering (S&I)
* Experience of AC system requirements and basic design considerations (S&I)
* Experience in design, assembly and testing of electrical or electronic systems (S&I)
* Experience with programming intelligent controllers such as PLCs (S&I)
* Knowledge of project management techniques and practical experience (S&I)
Desirable:
* Experience in motion control technology and applications, such as Variable Speed Drives, servo systems and stepper motor systems (S&I)
* Experience of AC distribution system design (S&I)
* Knowledge of Standards and Regulations applicable to electrical systems (S&I)
* Knowledge of electrical safety management (S&I)
* Knowledge of quality management systems (S&I)
* Experience of working as part of a multi-discipline engineering team (S&I)
