Vacancy Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 14 June 2026
About the role
As a team lead with strong technical instincts, you will expand your scope to shape what gets built and influence how we work, while still remaining heavily engaged in code. You’ll lead the migration of legacy enterprise applications to cloud‑native AWS architectures, establish Site Reliability Engineering and AI practices from scratch, and serve as the principal developer on a focused project within the programme.
Your line‑managing responsibilities will grow over time; we expect someone who has led people, cares about their growth, and is willing to develop people‑leadership skills with support.
Technical ownership will be your core focus: designing, building, and owning delivery, setting the standard through code reviews and design conversations, and building DevOps automation, observability, and AI‑responsible‑development standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead migration of legacy systems to AWS, driving architecture, implementation, and best‑practice adoption.
* Serve as principal developer on a high‑impact project, delivering end‑to‑end code and design decisions.
* Establish and lead a small team of developers, including one‑to‑ones, performance management, and growth conversations.
* Drive adoption of SRE and observability practices across the organisation.
* Collaborate in agile squads with architects, product owners, SREs, and infrastructure teams, acting as the technical voice in stakeholder discussions.
* Communicate clearly with engineering and non‑engineering stakeholders, exploring event‑driven architecture, microservices, security, and cloud best practices.
About You
We are looking for a current or recent team lead who is ready to step up technically. The key criteria are:
* Experience leading developers, formally or informally, with demonstrable people growth.
* Fluency in two or more modern programming languages and active coding.
* Hands‑on experience with AWS (or equivalent), beyond surface familiarity.
* Deep understanding of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and production observability.
* Ability to discuss event‑driven architecture, microservices, and security in a cloud context at an advanced level.
* Clear communication with engineers and non‑engineers, with openness to develop people‑leadership capabilities.
If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
* Hands‑on exposure to AI/ML in production systems.
* Experience establishing SRE or observability practice early on.
* A track record of modernising legacy systems without disrupting service.
Benefits
We offer a world‑class, flexible rewards package that supports you at work and beyond:
* 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
* Private medical and permanent health insurance.
* Discretionary annual bonus.
* Group personal pension scheme.
* Life assurance up to 4 × annual salary.
* Green travel schemes.
