Learning Support Assistant - Complex Needs
Location: Southampton
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
Contract: Term Time Only
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Southampton, supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), physical disabilities, and medical conditions.
This is a term-time only role, ideal for candidates looking to work within education and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individual and small group support to pupils within the classroom environment
* Assist with personal care and mobility support where required (training provided)
* Support the implementation of communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton) and sensory strategies
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to implement individual education plans (IEPs)
* Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that supports the emotional and academic development of pupils
* Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities and therapeutic interventions
Candidate Requirements
* Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs is highly desirable
* Confidence in assisting with personal care and physical needs, or willingness to undertake training
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting complex needs
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
