Software Developer – XR
As a Software Developer – XR at Foster + Partners, you will help shape cutting‑edge extended reality (XR) technologies that transform how the built environment is designed, visualised and experienced. Working within the Applied Research + Development team, you will create immersive, interactive applications that enable real‑time collaboration, high‑fidelity visualisation and spatial insight across architecture, engineering and construction projects.
Responsibilities
* Build immersive XR applications that push the boundaries of design and collaboration.
* Work across the full innovation lifecycle from experimental prototypes to production‑ready solutions.
* Explore cutting‑edge AR, VR and real‑time game engine technologies.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering and technology.
* Contribute to meaningful projects that shape the future of the built environment.
Qualifications
* Strong experience developing interactive or XR applications across multiple platforms and devices.
* Advanced knowledge of Unreal and/or Unity game engines and real‑time rendering workflows.
* Solid programming expertise in C++ and/or C#.
* Awareness of XR risks and best practices with a focus on delivering robust, secure solutions.
* Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and version control tools such as Git.
* Knowledge of UI/UX principles and interaction design within immersive environments.
* Familiarity with cloud, streaming or GPU technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, CUDA) and design and construction tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper or Revit is advantageous.
