Graduate Engineer – Energy Storage, Engineering & Commercial Integration - Cheshire
Launch your career at the intersection of engineering, energy markets and commercial strategy. This opportunity sits within a major UK energy storage operator specialising in underground gas and hydrogen storage. You'll work on real-world challenges that link technical asset performance with commercial value, helping shape how energy is stored, priced and delivered.
This is a unique graduate role designed to develop engineers who can think commercially. You'll gain exposure to asset performance modelling, storage capacity optimisation, market dynamics and customer solutions, building a skillset that bridges engineering and revenue generation.
What you'll be doing
* Analysing storage asset performance including deliverability, injection constraints and pressure systems
* Supporting modelling of compressors, processes and operational efficiency improvements
* Providing technical input into capacity allocation, outage planning and asset optimisation
* Supporting commercial valuation models for gas and hydrogen storage products
* Conducting scenario analysis linking engineering constraints with market conditions
* Assisting with capacity auctions, customer proposals and commercial feasibility assessments
* Building dashboards and insights that support technical and commercial decision-making
* Contributing to investment cases, innovation projects and decarbonisation strategies
Key criteria
* Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Energy, Petroleum or closely related discipline)
* Strong analytical capability combining engineering fundamentals with commercial thinking
* Interest in energy storage, gas markets, hydrogen or low-carbon energy systems
* Understanding of pressure systems, process engineering or similar technical concepts
* Ability to interpret data and contribute to modelling or performance analysis
* Commercial awareness or interest in how engineering impacts revenue and cost
* Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
* Collaborative mindset and ability to work across engineering, operations and commercial teams
* Exposure to modelling tools (e.g. Python, MATLAB, HYSYS) is advantageous but not essential
