168 Medical Group – Practice Nurse
Job Summary
Provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients and assist doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. Perform duties normally undertaken by an experienced Registered General Nurse and additional roles agreed with doctors.
Main Responsibilities
* Keep nursing skills and knowledge up to date and in line with current guidelines.
* Work independently alongside the Lead Practice Nurse and Healthcare Assistant team, making decisions and recommendations as appropriate.
* Oversee Healthcare Assistants when required.
* Undertake relevant training courses to advance skills.
* Keep up to date on changes to national guidelines.
* Plan workload proactively to complete tasks in a timely manner.
* Contribute to the achievement of the Quality and Outcomes Framework.
* Run chronic disease management clinics, staying current with guidelines.
* Prescribe safely and appropriately (where post holder is an independent prescriber).
Routine Treatment Room Activities
* Cytology
* Wound care / Dopplers / Four‑layer bandaging
* Removal of sutures
* Urinalysis
* Travel immunisations
* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* Hypertension management
* Ear syringing
* Routine immunisations / Childhood immunisations
* Chaperone and assist patients during examinations by another clinician
* Request pathology tests such as urine culture, swabs
* Contraception provision
* Therapeutic monitoring
* Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
* Order health promotion literature
* Order vaccinations to maintain stock levels
* Awareness of national infection control standards, regulatory and professional requirements.
* 24‑hour blood pressure monitor
Qualifications
* NMC registration.
Additional Information
Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This position requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per year
