As a Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in assuring the safety of complex, mission‑critical systems that support the UK’s naval capability. Working within our Product Safety team, you will contribute to the design, development and ongoing support of Platform Management Systems for surface ships and submarines. Our UK Defence business is a sovereign software and systems centre of excellence, delivering cutting‑edge solutions that form part of the modern backbone of the Royal Navy. You will work alongside multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, influencing design decisions and helping to ensure that safety is embedded throughout the system lifecycle. This role is well suited to an engineer looking to grow their career in functional and product safety, with strong support, mentoring and development opportunities available. What you will be doing Supporting the delivery of safety engineering activities across complex defence programmes Contributing to hazard identification and safety analysis, including HAZOP, FFA, FTA, FMECA and LOPA Assisting in the generation of system safety requirements and safety targets Producing high‑quality safety documentation in line with company and customer standards Supporting design reviews and safety committees, providing clear and evidence‑based safety arguments Working collaboratively with systems, hardware, software and project teams to influence safe design outcomes What we are looking for Education or experience in a safety‑related engineering environment Awareness of functional and product safety standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00‑056 Understanding of hardware and software failure modes and their effects Exposure to safety and reliability analysis techniques such as hazard analysis, FMECA or FTA Ability to work effectively within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams A degree, HND or HNC in Engineering or a safety‑related discipline, or equivalent experience If you don’t meet every requirement but are motivated to develop a career in safety engineering, we still encourage you to apply.
