Offer description

*This post is exempt from the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, Part 1) which provides for the application of a genuine occupational requirement. I am a cis woman requiring personal care support, so usually I will hire female PAs. I will however consider hiring persons of any gender as long as I am safe/comfortable. Do you want a job where you can make a real difference? Do you prefer practical, physical work rather than sitting in an office? Do you want a job that will give you the opportunity to see life from a new perspective? If you are a practically-minded, energetic person, who wants to work in a dynamic environment, being a Personal Support Assistant is the job for you. I am a wheelchair user and require support for all physical aspects of my daily life. Your job will be to provide the right assistance, as and when required, in order to enable independent living. This dynamic role can broadly be summarised as personal care [toileting, changing, showering, advanced hoisting, etc], household tasks [preparing food, cleaning, doing laundry, etc], emergency and physiotherapy support [passive movements, TENS machine, Therabite, Assisted Coughing to resolve choking incidents, etc], as well as help with mobility and safety when I am outside and at home [booking taxis, supporting my head, adjustment headrest on wheelchair, etc]. When I employ a Personal Support Assistant, I am “borrowing” your hands to help me with the part of life I cannot physically do and ask for help with. This is a unique role suitable for school/college/university leavers or those who are looking to take time to reflect on their next career steps and work on their personal development. This job has no fancy titles or job ladders, but if you can do this job well, you can succeed in any role you choose. Not likely to be replaced by AI anytime soon!
